my hands were shaking as the sky turned the world muted candy colours. the two acne hydrocolloid patches on my cheek were still sticking around. i wasn’t sure about turning my photography in for money, but my first ever clientele were so nice, considerate and almost punctual that it felt less like work than a hangout with new friends. i thought they made a mistake when i opened their envelope because there was too much, way more than what i had asked for and what i think i deserved. but they said it was correct and insisted we take it. i wanted to cry because i can’t believe anyone thinks my work is worth this much. it’s not a lot but it’s a lot.
